Our Lady of the Metaphors (pics)

Three views of Our Lady of the Metaphors (See this for the source of the inspiration.)
And I STILL couldn't fit everything in. I started out with Durer engravings-- I'm pretty sure copyright had lapsed on them. :^) It's a pity I couldn't post it full size- you miss a lot of the detail.

WOw! The Lady of many powers!

She's inspired by the excerpt of a published novel on this post in vandonovan's journal.

I am awed at your commitment to making that totally rubbish text into a visual example. Now you need to find the author and ask: "Is this really what you wanted?" :D

*giggle* I can totally see why a fairy king would be irresistibly attracted to her. :^)

Wow! that is aweful (as in full of awe). I amazed at how you managed tofi everything in.
Admittedly I didn't have the fortitude to read the full description but you had everything I remembered.

Some things I had to omit because he'd described the same part so many times I couldn't fit them all in. :^P

Staggering. I mean absolutely brain-stopping. It's more effective than the text, because it's not serial; one can apprehend something of the totality.

Thank you! In this case three pictures are probably worth more than three thousand words. :^)

These seriously look like they belong in the art museum on my campus. I should get them to fill the entire gallery with tributes to that horrible book. I love the locust feet particularly. Now I really want a pair of slippers with giant stuffed locusts on them.

[info]entropy_house

April 4 2009, 18:34:29 UTC 3 years ago

Locust Slippers! I am amazed that my googling just now failed to locate any. What a sad lack in the Essential consumer products market. :^)

The pictures look much better in the 300dpi version. If I had a good printer I'd be tempted to make them into posters. :^)

This really does show how giving waaaay to many descriptions of your character is going to look bad visually. XD The descriptions may have sounded pretty, but mashing them up all together just makes the character look so...grotesque. It's a cross between an abstract and surrealism art piece.

[info]entropy_house

September 11 2009, 14:58:47 UTC 2 years ago

*nods* They'd make good posters for aspiring novelists. Visualize what you're writing!

Having found my way there through diverse paths via friends of friends, I must say...as scary as the inspiration is, your art is rather lovely.

September 11 2009, 15:01:42 UTC 2 years ago

Thank you! I thought, despite the grotesquery, she did wind up with a certain dignity and pride in her... uniqueness. :^)

Out of curiosity, what images of naked women did you use for your template? I'm particularly interested in the first one :)

[info]entropy_house

September 27 2009, 14:41:09 UTC 2 years ago

They were nudes by Durer which I found on a classic art gallery site (I googled just now and can't find it again). I still have the originals on my computer (each is about 80k.) If you'd like copies, then comment with the email you'd like me to use and I'll send them to you.
