Decadent Matters

9:25PM - Percussive Maintenance is the key!
I picked up the front end of the scanner a few times about 6 inches and dropped it. That seems to have helped. I guess I used it so rarely it got 'flat spots in the belts' and gets stuck. Maybe it'll loosen up with use. I'd really rather not keep slam-dunking it.
So I scanned 2 more pics. Mom playing glamour girl, and Ken cross-dressing. MMMM... hot stuff! :^)

7:01PM - I fought the scanner.
And eventually gave up, because it kept freezing, but I did get 3 mildly interesting pics, all probably around 1960.
( Scary doll, Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. )
12:31PM - I give up and am having a cow.
I just plain CANNOT figure out what bathroom fixtures to order. What's the difference between centerset and widespread and miniwidespread in faucets - if a sink says '4 inch centers' does that mean a 4 inch centerset faucet will work? Does a wall-mount sink have to have a drain grid? Does a wall-mount sink need to have a pipe shroud? Would a pedestal sink require re-plumbing? Is a one-piece toilet good? (It's smaller, which would be a big help in my green bathroom.)
*sigh* I've printed up stuff that I THINK might do, and I'm going to have to break down and ask incompetent crook plumber next door for advice. I've asked him for nothing despite him saying several times that he'd help me if I needed it (well, except for help cutting down a tree we both hated, which he did quite a bit on before I hired someone to finish the job). The last time I invited him in to see how far I'd got he 'jokingly but serious' offered to help with the drywall around the doors 'and I won't charge you too much'. Hah, he's a rip-off artist, and a bad plumber besides. But I figure he can't possibly know Less than I do, and can at least tell me if the type of fixtures I'm showing him a photo of would work where I need them.
But it's gonna take me a few days to get up the nerve to call him.
( In the meantime, have a cow. A world-famous cow. )
9:27AM - Fairly important LJ discussion
LJ is considering changes to the suspension procedure and actually asking for discussion. They're not talking about what determines a violation, but how they'll treat the violation. The one possibility they're considering I really like-- to suspend/lock down/hide from public view the offending post only and allow the user to continue using their journal. They also say they'd be sent email telling them what is offending that LJ wants removed.

9:46PM - Ok, here's dad in a photo taken at the same time.
I am still not sure who the lady is, but ... the wristwatch has a nagging familiarity about it... could that be my grandmother? (My mother's mother.) She had a sense of fun and I could really imagine her dressing up for laughs. But it doesn't really look like her...

6:45PM - A really goofy/cool pair of photos
I'm just too brain rot & sleepy even to hunt up sinks on the net. So I looked at slides again.
These pics were from GLASS slides, that's how old they are (I'm guessing 1950's). The only clue I have to identity is that it said 'old California' on the box (half the pics in the box obviously weren't taken in California, so that's not a terribly large clue.) Mom & dad mentioned a few times that their landlords when they lived in California before I was born were a very fun-loving couple who called each other 'momsy and popsy'. I'm guessing that's who it was. There were also slides of Momsy vamping my father who was pretending to read some sort of beaknik pamphlet, but these shots are even better. They remind me of some over-the-top comedy. I didn't try to clean them up (5 bazillion dots?).
I love the costume jewelry butterfly in her hair. Marcasite?
Must go for a nap. I'm yawning all over the place. Coffee didn't wake me up.
I think there's a bottle of champagne in the background of the second pic. That might explain the silly.

1:08PM - A side of me you've never seen
I have many important things I should be doing today. However I don't think I will.
My Certificate of Deposit matures today & I'll need to go to the bank & discuss options within the next 10 days or they'll simply renew it, which may not be in my financial best interest (literally). But today's the day before a holiday & I expect it'll be crowded.
I put some photo albums in the Flist Guest room (Fluest/Glist?) on the lowest shelves of the bookcases there. Not trusting my cat, I put them in plastic bags. I put in Teddy Bears, Cats, Pets, Zoos, Quilts, Dolls & Crafts, Dogs & Horses. Tempting? I might put in Disneyworld, too, if I can find a good bag for the albums.
I went into the memorabilia/things I might sell storage area to shift things about now that I've freed up more space & found 3 more albums I'd done previously (older family stuff, when I was a child) & glanced at the slides. JUST A GLANCE, said I. Last night I'd done the same thing & found my Bother Ken's wedding (I don't think they were ever made into prints) and I remembered that the scanner I'd got 2 years ago came with frames for scanning film & slides, etc. So I dug out the manual & figured it out & printed up the best one to send him with the slides.
It's time-consuming, but I CAN now turn slides into photos. NOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOOOOO.... ok, I gave in. I looked through one box of about 20 slides and blew several hours on 2 images of me.
( Pony play and nudity. Ok. It's work-safe. )

11:07PM - Wrong Under it All (B7 slash fic)
(the slash is purely a matter of desire, no actual physical contact)
This is a remix of
blakefancier's Right On Through. This time I changed POV to Blake, and it doesn't follow the events, really.

7:27PM - 67
Filled photo albums (of various sizes). *flumph* I just could NOT concentrate on anything else once I got into the final stage.
The very last were the rolls of film I'd taken in 2003 (I went digital after that) when I went to England for a month (I got to see *2* Blake's 7 conventions- one at the beginning of the month, the other at the end). It was the first time I'd traveled anywhere by myself & I was sick as a dog with multiple untreated (some I didn't even know about) health problems which made things really... awkward on top of me being socially totally inept.
I was incredibly fortunate to have so many absolutely wonderful friends I'd 'met' on the adult Blake's 7 mailing list who not only took me into their homes for a few days each and gave me all possible consideration, and made sure I got safely to my next hosting of the next B7 Friend, but took me to all sorts of lovely places, museums and shops and places to see books and antique clothes, and teddy bears and swans and Stratford-upon-Avon, and butterflies and a fantastic drive through wild animal park and Portmeirion (Berr Avon loved Portmeirion) and shared their cats and... truly, guys, I don't know what I'd have done without them. Some of them on are on LJ, and if they read this, I hope they know just how much I still appreciate everything they did for me.

It's the second where I am! Written for the Drake's Venture 2008 Beheading Commemorative Ficathon.
A Question of Time

Happy Birthday,
blakefancier I've done a remix of her story 'Walls'. I switched the Point of View to Avon and gave a bit more background and my usual illogical metaphors. M/M sex, but not detailed.

1:56PM - Procrastinating links
I should be doing many things. I just can't focus mentally. I even kept doing these links wrong. Looking for the old love meme, which chose your icons and color barred them (didn't find it) I found this page of pics of an extreme type calico Persian kitten (or maybe it's a Scottish Fold/Persian cross? The fur looks too short, even for a kit).
Which somehow led to this place where they animate & add audio to pet pictures.
Here's a link to one of the albums.
And here are links to some I found quite cute.

10:03AM - Pic Spam 3 Miniature Horses
Last night in a comment I mentioned sorting through old photos I'd taken of miniature horses, and
kalinda001 wondered if I'd post some. So here are the best pics from the batch. 11 pictures all told, taken back in the 1980's and scanned last night. The minis were all at a tourist attraction that was only briefly (like 2 or 3 months) in existence. Fortunately, my young nephew had just come for a visit, and mom wanted to take him somewhere for the day, or I'd have never got the chance to see them. I loved them and wanted to take them ALL home. Wait till you see the baby.
EDIT: I did a bit of googling just now as I'm cooling down & preparing to go back out & mow some more, and think I found the name of the attraction. It was the World of Miniature Horses, in Pompano Beach, Florida. Which rather explains why the flashiest horse was named Pompano Boy.
EDIT 2: I did a bit more googling and found that a couple years ago I'd put up some pics from that day. There are a couple on here that I didn't post today.

9:56AM - Pic Spam 1 of 3 Flowers and a Wordles T-shirt
I have GOT to mow. But I'm sweating IN the house, in the room with the one A/C I run. *sigh* Must do it. But I'm procrastinating with these pictures first. Here are three images for your viewing pleasure.
Also, I did a new Wordle last night, based on the to-do list I made up in May of 2007. I may make myself an iron-on of it. ;^)

3:30PM - Hah, you didn't fool me.
AT&T emailed me saying my Go-phone needed refill to avoid loss of the money I've already paid into it. I said, 'mmmm... that seems too soon'. Yep. It's not due for refill until JULY 21. I got the AT&T woman to assure me they're not going to eat my $108.50 (I pay them $25 every 3 months, and use it so seldom it keeps growing- cost is $1 for each day you actually use it, and 10 cents per minute. I use it maybe one day every 2 months to call cabs. I am SO glad I didn't get a regular cell phone plan.)
And in entirely unrelated info, I stumbled across an LJ Cheat Sheet someone made on Christmas Day 2003. It's handy, covering such things as how to change the color of text & other basics which are either difficult to find in the LJ FAQs or simply not there at all. (I'm pretty sure there's at least one mistake- the coding for super script is the same as for sub script. And it cheerfully gives instructions on how to hot-link, which a Not Nice thing to do.)
